County approves site for Needles casino

San Bernardino, California – The proposed site of an Indian casino on the outskirts of the Colorado River town of Needles has the blessing of San Bernardino County supervisors.

The location on 300 acres some four miles west of Needles near Interstate 40 was approved Tuesday by supervisors. The 1,120-member Fort Mojave Band of Indians would build roads to the 100,000-square-foot gambling hall.

Besides county and city approval on the location, Needles residents must sign off on the proposal. The issue goes before voters Tuesday.

Nevada’s Avi Resort & Casino is 15 miles north of Needles, and the Las Vegas-style Laughlin resorts are 25 miles away.
