Ray Romano ’sucks‘ at golf and poker
Actor Ray Romano is playing in the Main Event for the second straight year. The „Everybody Loves Raymond“ star is also a fixture at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the PGA Tour and when we asked which he was better at, golf or poker, he was brutally honest.
„I suck at both,“ said Romano as he walked out of the Amazon Ballroom to take the last 20-minute break of the night. „The difference is that in golf, I know what I’m supposed to be doing and how I’m supposed to be swinging the club, but I can’t do it. Here, I really have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing and what I’m not.“
Despite the self-deprecation, Romano left a healthy stack of chips at the table following the end of Level 4 play.
„One more level to go,“ said Romano, who was wearing a cap from the animated movie Ice Age — Dawn of the Dinosaurs (scheduled to be released in 2009), in which he voiced the main character. „Last year I played for nine hours on Day 1 and busted out. I’d love to get to Day 2. I’m almost there.“
Mystical robes and beard no help for Cahail
Some poker players wear sunglasses. And others wear hoodies. And others, like Blair Cahail, wear costumes. Cahail earned the fashion statement of the day award by donning a mystical robe and fake headpiece that inlcuded long white hair and a white beard. Cahail completed the outfit with a PokerNews Strategy patch. Unfortunately for Cahill, the mage look didn’t give him any magic at the poker table. He was eliminated early on Day 1A.
No TV for you
During a break towards the end of the night, the WSOP staff clarified the rules on how to handle „all-in call.“
Yell „all-in call“ and raise your small paddled, intoned floor supervisor. „Then wait five seconds and proceed.“
„It’s not likely that you’ll end up on TV.„
