New focus on venues to fight problem gambling

There’s an increasing focus on gaming venues in the effort to curb problem gambling in Tasmania.

Responsible Gambling Awareness Week was launched in Hobart today and staff in gaming venues will be part of the campaign.

Gambling support program co-ordinator Gavin Miller says the gaming industry is now better trained in recognising signs of excessive gambling and encouraging patrons to seek help.

„Gamblers are in venues and thats where you can find them, that’s where they’re thinking about gambling,“ Mr Miller said.

„So if you can for one week of the year at least get posters and cards and badges and things out there they can see that and be reminded about a balanced approach.“ he said.
