Man arrested over Star City Casino shooting

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a woman at Star City Casino in inner Sydney on Thursday afternoon.

The 30-year-old woman is in a serious but stable condition in Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital after being shot once in the pelvis at the casino about 2.00 pm (AEST).

A man was arrested in Pyrmont, a short distance from the casino, about an hour later.

The woman was working at the casino’s gym, when a man walked in and fired several shots.

Police say the 25-year-old man had paid for a taxi to wait for him outside, but ran away instead.

Casino worker Cassie Watson was in the area at the time and said people were jumping everywhere.

Police say the man and woman knew each other, but are not saying how.

Inspector Brenton Lee says the man was arrested by plain-clothes officers in a nearby street after he walked out of a building in disguise.

„At the time of his arrest he appeared to be wearing false facial hair,“ he said.

It is believed the man attempted to get into a number of buildings before he was captured.

Inspector Lee also said the man was caught with three semi-automatic pistols when he tried to leave the building.

„This was one of the most dangerous situations that I’ve run across in my career. I had the technical operations unit on their way to the scene,“ he said.

The man is expected to be charged later tonight.
