Data from Vending365 show that by the end of 2019, there were about 490-515 thousand vending machines in operation in China. East China had the highest market penetration rate where roughly 40-43% vending machines were located, followed by North China which was home to around 26-28% vending machines.

April 17th, Suzhou City unveiled its Night-time Economy Development Plan (2020-2022), pushing forward 24-hour services like micro markets, unmanned gyms, self-service book stores, paid study rooms, and etc.

Shanghai Online New Economy Development Plan (2020-2022) released on April 13th encourages contact-free delivery and new retail, such as smart takeout/package pickup lockers and vending machines in business parks, residential areas, school campus, and etc, and the adoption of delivery drones, self-driving delivery vehicles, micro markets, and so on.

To better meet citizens’ after-hours medicine needs, recently the Chongqing’s Medical Product Administration Bureau moved on to draft Chongqing Drug Vending Machines Regulations, and is currently collecting suggestions from the public.

April 20th, Dahuang’e, an up-and-rising vending machine system provider, completed its series A financing by receiving tens of millions of yuan funding from Z&H Investment. Currently, Dahuang’e systems have been installed in over 20,000 vending machines, spreading across 300 cities in China.
