Washington county passes anti-casino resolution

County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution stating their opposition to a „major commercial gaming facility in the unincorporated area of Clark County.“ “We don’t allow card rooms; we don’t allow slot machines,” said Commissioner Betty Sue Morris.

Phil Harju, a member of the Cowlitz Tribal Council and its designated casino spokesman, has said he didn’t think the resolution would apply to the tribe’s casino. “When the land is taken into trust, it will not be a commercial casino,” he said last week. “It will be a tribal casino.”

Commissioners previously have voiced opposition to gambling and said they would prefer to see the tribe build a business park, not a casino, on a 61.5 hectares site a couple miles west of La Center.
