British casino school opened

The UK’s first fully-equipped specialist casino school has opened in Cardiff, Wales. The independent accredited training school, set up by Professional Croupier Training (PCT), aims to provide intensive instruction for people aiming to work in the gaming sector according to training officer Janet Miller.

„The new National Occupational Standards are part of a move to professionalise the sector and encourage more talented people, including graduates, to pursue careers in casinos,“ Miller commented.

“People aged over 18 can train as croupiers. If they have outgoing personalities, are good with figures and have dexterity in both hands, they may well have the ingredients to succeed in this business.“

The new PCT centre, which has capacity to train 100 people a year, is accredited by EDI and will provide a six-week full-time or twenty four week part-time intensive course to small groups of trainees.

On completion of the course they will receive an accredited qualification for “Professional Croupier Gaming Skills” in American Roulette, Blackjack and Five Card Stud Poker, as well as key skills such as customer care, knowledge of gaming law, gambling awareness & social responsibility and conflict resolution.
