Gambling prevalence study to be published this month

Just weeks after the introduction of the UK Gambling Act 2005, the Gambling Commission has announced that it will publish its prevalence study examining problem gambling in the UK on September 19.

„There will be a presentation to industry bodies on the Tuesday evening before it is released the next day,” one gambling industry source, who did not wish to be named, told news agency Reuters.

The Gambling Commission’s report, which will look at a range of gambling formats from betting at casinos to online gambling and playing the National Lottery, comes amidst concerns from charitable organisations such as the Samaritans that an increase in gambling advertising will lead to a rise in gambling addiction in the UK.

In other news gaming charity Gamble Aware, in conjunction the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and other organisations, has launched site www.gambleaware.co.uk to offer advice on responsible gambling.
