Newcastle casino robbed

Six armed men held staff at a Newcastle casino at gunpoint and made off with ZAR 1,5-million in cash, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said the men entered the casino at around 11pm on Sunday night, held staff at gunpoint and demanded cash from the tills.

They then ran away with an estimated ZAR 1,5-million in cash.

No shots were fired and no arrests had yet been made.

Police were investigating a case of armed robbery.

A week ago a gang of thieves held up an entire hotel in northern KwaZulu-Natal, robbing the hotel, staff and guests of cash, cellphones and cars.

The incident took place shortly before midnight on Monday, August 13. – Sapa
