Codere and William Hill look to obtain the first sporting bet license in Spain

Last Friday, Codere & William Hill Joint Venture has presented to the General Gaming Direction of Madrid Council the necessary documentation to obtain the first sports betting license in Spain.

The publication of the regulation for the provision of the sports betting services in Madrid, last December 18th, put Madrid citizens as potential users to enjoy this innovative service in the country for the first time. This product has existed in UK and Ireland for more than 70 years.

Edmundo Ahijón, General Gaming Director of Madrid Council, commented: “We are satisfied of being the pioneer Autonomous Community in Spain to organize the order of the new service of Sporting Bets and also that companies with the magnitude and experience as Codere & William Hill are leading this process”.

After many months of work, the new society, created by Codere and William Hill, complies with all the requirements demanded by the legislation of the Madrid Council, having presented last Friday the definitive documentation which will authorize the legal operation to become the first company in Spain to provide a sports betting service.

Codere, the Spanish multinational gaming company and William Hill, the largest betting company in UK per number of centres and profitability, comprise a 50-50 joint venture which already has the technical and operational strenght to offer, in a few months, a new leisure model, the sporting bets.

The brand through with Codere & William Hill will provide their services in Spain is Victoria, which will also be the one to open the first betting center in the Spanish market. Victoria will have new centers, designed as meeting points, according to the needs of the new Spanish consumer.

Displays with live broadcast of the main sporting events, information of how to make a bet, leaflets to explain the type of bets, magazines with information about football, races, basketball, etc. Besides, Victoria will provide its services according to the regulations of the Madrid Council, in other information and selling points: bingos, casinos, gaming halls, etc.
