Bally’s dealers, guards vote on unions this weekend

More than 1,400 dealers and security guards at Bally’s Atlantic City will vote today and Sunday in separate union elections.

Approximately 1,200 full- and part-time dealers, dual-rate dealers, keno and simulcast employees will decide today whether they wish to be represented by the United Auto Workers union. The National Labor Relations Board-supervised election will be held in the Claridge Ballroom on the sixth floor from 7 to 9:30 a.m., 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 1.30 a.m. Sunday.

Two hundred and thirty casino and hotel security officers, fire-command officers and security-operations specialists will vote Sunday on whether they wish to be represented by the International Union of the Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America. The election will also be held in the Claridge Ball Room on the sixth floor, from 5:30 to 9 a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

This will be the fifth Atlantic City casino in which dealers vote on UAW representation, and the first election among casinos concerning the SPFPA union. Both unions have indicated interest in organizing workers at all 11 casinos. In recent months, dealers at Caesars Atlantic City and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino voted for the UAW, while dealers at Trump Marina Hotel Casino and Atlantic City Hilton Resort voted against it.
