Hellenic casino sector stated high growth rates during 2006

A Major contribution to the Revenues of the Hellenic Republic

The Hellenic casino sector presented high growth rates throughout 2006, contributing EUR 257.1 million to the Hellenic State, an amount which currently excludes each company’s income tax, since the relevant financial statements have not yet been concluded.

In detail, during 2006:

The Hellenic casino sector posted a 13.0% growth in the Gross Gaming Revenues (GGR) – compared to 2005 – reaching EUR 688.1 million.

The net income for the Hellenic State resulting from the casinos’ contributions – including a fee/percentage on their GGR, state rights on tickets, as well as Municipality taxes and dues in favor of the Hellenic Tourist Organization – all reached EUR 257.1 million, approximately 12% up compared to 2005.

The Hellenic casinos welcomed 3.4 million visits during 2006, presenting a 4.9% increase compared to 2005; whereas the total bet (in all casinos) amounted to EUR 2.8 billion, up by 10.4% year on year.

The contribution of the casino sector towards the Hellenic economy expanded, total employment reached 5,310 employees, whereas particularly increased were the high-income tourists’ visits were significantly increased in 2006, contributing to the enrichment of the country’s tourism product.
