Poker club gambles on its licence

Europe’s biggest poker club may be set up in Nottingham.

A company called Dusk Till Dawn Poker wants to open a GBP 7m complex at a retail park on Redfield Way.

The firm has obtained a certificate of consent from the Gambling Commission and is to apply to Nottingham magistrates for a gambling licence.

Owner Robert Yong said: „It was a gamble because in the UK you have to secure your premises before you can apply for a licence.“

He said there was a real need for the club: „We’ve already got 3,600 members before we’ve even opened the doors. Poker is a growing business.“

The 15,000-sq-ft club will be as big as Manchester’s proposed super casino, with 50 poker tables, a restaurant and a bar.

„The club has been a huge boost to the economy in Nottingham already,“ said Mr Yong.

„We have spent GBP 4m building Europe’s biggest poker club and another GBP 3m on a 15-year lease, proving our commitment to the city.

„We will be making Nottingham one of the world’s biggest poker centres.“
