Blackpool has been given another chance to argue it should have been awarded the UK‘s first super-casino licence.

Resort leaders have been invited alongside all the other towns and cities who entered bids for the licence, to submit evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee set to meet on Tuesday March 13.

Bidders have been asked to answer eight questions on the selection criteria and raise any concerns about the process submitting their response to the House of Lords select committee by 8pm today.

Blackpool council leader, Roy Fisher, said: „This presents a good opportunity to for us to state our case and comment on the processes and report from the Casino Advisory Panel.

„We are currently compiling our answers to the questions and we will be submitting them to the committee before the deadline.“

Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell and Casino Advisory Panel chairman, Professor Stephen Crow have also been invited to appear before the committee.

Professor Crow will be asked to explain how the panel reached their controversial decision to recommend Manchester as the site for the UK‘s first supercasino.

Blackpool North MP Joan Humble, said: „There are widespread concerns in the Lords as well as in the Commons about how the panel reached their decision.

„I welcome the efforts the select committee is making especially in calling Professor Crow to give evidence because he has avoided speaking about the details of his report.

„This shows the momentum hasn’t fallen away and there is still everything to play for.“

Fylde Coast MPs were disappointed when culture secretary, Tessa Jowell asked Parliament to approve Manchester as the site for the supercasino last week.

Fylde MP Michael Jack, said: „Tessa Jowell acted in unseeming haste in accepting the panel’s findings and she has proceeded in a blinkered fashion ever since.

„I’m happy the select committee are looking into this, allowing for a well informed debate.“

The select committee will use its findings to advise peers prior to a vote on whether to accept all of the CAP‘s recommendations.
