Blackpool Council has formally unveiled its plans to bid for a regional or super-casino to the Casino Advisory Panel later this month.

The final document detailing the city’s blueprint for a new conference and casino quarter will be entered before the final deadline of March 31 and will outline Blackpool’s case to be chosen as the site for the UK’s first and only so-called super-casino. Proposals for a regional casino were overwhelmingly accepted by the council with 35 votes in favour, none against and one abstention.

Council leader Roy Fisher commented: „This is one of the most important decisions this council will make. It will be the catalyst for regeneration.“

„There are a number of authorities that have expressed interest in a casino and there’s strong competition… but we have put forward a strong case. We were the first authority to put forward a case for a casino, and we firmly believe we will win this race – not just for the people who come to Blackpool but the people who live in Blackpool.“

According to the local authority, a regional casino would help generate GBP 2 billion of capital investment and extra 20,000 jobs. After the CAP has received all the proposals it will shortlist its chosen locations before making a recommendation to the culture secretary by the end of this year.
