Harrah’s unveils design plans for Marina resort, ropes in „Titanic“ director

Harrah’s Entertainment is going high-tech for the integrated resort bid at Marina Bay.

In plans unveiled on Tuesday, the US resort-operator has outlined a high-tech theme park as the key component of its Marina resort proposal.

And to drive the project, it has roped in James Cameron, famed director of the „Titanic“ movie.

He will contribute the rights and oversight to develop interactive rides based on his hit movies such as „Aliens“ and „Titanic“.

There are plans for a high-tech theme park at the resort which will be anchored by a 16-storey, one million square foot futuristic building called the iPort.

The main feature of iPort will be the centre atrium dubbed the Media Canyon.

This will span the full height of the 16-storey building, housing two 140-foot video cyclones.

Guests travel through iPort in travelling pods, a cantilevered transportation system that extends from the base of the Media Canyon to the top of iPort.

This is the first time that any of the Marina bidders have unveiled such detailed plans of their proposals.

Other bidders have so far only announced tie-ups.

MGM-CapitaLand has roped in KPF as principal architect for their Marina bid.

KPF was of course instrumental for the design of Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills.

And they have also engaged Media Asia to bring top Asian entertainers to their resort in Singapore.

As for Las Vegas Sands, it has roped in six celebrity chefs and plans to open a dozen high-dining restaurants in the resort.

Harrah’s is teaming up with Keppel Land with the bid.

But they have roped in global convention centre manager and marketer SMG, as well as France’s Centre Pompidou to manage the museum component of their resort.

Genting is also expected to place a bid for the Marina resort, but so far it has been keeping its cards close to its chest.
